Koepfer Model 160 Hobbing Machine

Koepfer's Model 160 incorporates current technology combined with an innovative slant bed design. This machine is the result of many generations of gear cutting and machine building experience.

The Model 160 features:

• Composite epoxy bed ensures the highest possible static, dynamic and thermal stability. This material has superior dampening characteristics and is the same material as used on high precision grinding machines.

• Slant-bed design provides optimum strength, and was confirmed by computer driven analysis of both static and dynamic forces. This design innovation also provides an ideal ergonomic position for operator access to the work area and cutting tool. Chip flow is directed totally out of the machine to provide maximum thermal stability. The Koepfer Model 160 is capable of wet or dry hobbing; the choice is completely up to the customer!

• A high-speed, direct-driven hob head provides standard cutting tool speeds to 5,000 RPM. Temperature stabilization by internal cooling of this spindle assures accuracy and reliability. The cutting tool arbor is located and clamped using the HSK taper system that provides maximum stability at high speeds.

• Innovative tailstock design (patents pending) provides compensation for extreme cutting forces. It achieves this without affecting the axis and workpiece alignments.

• Digital drives with optically coupled circuits reduce electrical interference. Eight axes of control provide total CNC capability and flexibility. Machine setup is made easy through a "windows" type dialogue program.

• Linear guideways with high accuracy, pre-loaded, dampened roller elements. These roller elements are designed to be maintenance free.

• High speed, double rotary gripper automatic loading system provides maximum flexibility with minimum idle time. Typical loading time is 2 to 3 seconds. The flexible Koepfer loading magazine is standard, or the customer can specify a unique solution to meet his needs.

• Long bed version is also available. The Koepfer Model 160 long bed allows shafts up to 24" to be cut. Shafts with multiple gears can also be cut in one clamping.

• Simplified maintenance and service. All auxiliary systems are totally accessible, and the electrical cabinet can be swiveled away from the machine.
