Koepfer Model 300 Gear Hobbing Machine

The Koepfer Model 300 combines heavy duty hobbing capability with maximum versatility. The Model 300 has eight axes (nine with gantry loading system) of CNC control, which make nearly all gear cutting applications possible.

The Model 300 features:

• Composite epoxy bed ensures the highest possible static, dynamic and thermal stability. This material has superior dampening characteristics and is the same material as used on high precision grinding machines.

• Proven closed box machine design provides the highest static and dynamic rigidity when extreme cutting forces are applied. This design concept also ensures a longer machine life and consistent part quality due to the symmetrical distribution of cutting faces.

• A direct drive digital work spindle ensures consistent quality over the life of the Koepfer Model 300. The work spindle includes pre-loaded bearings and a modular clamping system to accurately and safely locate and clamp the work pieces. Clamping through the work spindle prevents any stress to the machine guideways or bearings. This is also a superior clamping system for large diameter work pieces with high helix angles.

• Quick changeover is achieved by the standard quick clamping work spindle that allows work piece fixturing to be clamped with the touch of a button. The hob arbor can also be clamped and unclamped quickly with the quick hob arbor clamping system.

• A CNC control designed for flexibility with a "windows" type dialogue program is standard. This control allows the operator to know where each of the seven (eight with automation) axes is at all times. Timing of one gear to another gear on the same work piece is possible. Also, timing of a gear tooth to an external or internal feature. Most importantly, this timing is the very basis of the Koepfer skiving system.

• When equipped with the CNC controlled gantry automation system, the Koepfer Model 300 becomes the ultimate flexible production hobbing machine. Whether it is the standard gravity fed magazine or a uniquely designed system, Koepfer's experience with automation systems cannot be equaled.
